Downloadable handset applications
From WAP to “app”
In addition to mobile Internet WAP sites, Cielo also builds downloadable handset-resident Java or Brew applications branded for particular clients. These companies want to provide consumers with a superior user experience, while carving out their own “real estate” directly on consumers’ cell phones.Cielo’s handset applets -- containing free utility or entertainment desired by consumers -- provide features that include social-media, allowing consumers to upload and share their own photos and videos. Because of Cielo’s trusted relationships with major carriers, Cielo is able to gain access to high-value phone features normally locked by operators.
The component-based architecture of our applications allows pluggable features, such as video streaming, to be easily added during the applet build process. This allows Cielo to publish many application versions all with a similar look and feel across different classes of handsets supporting varying services. Separate plug-in components include:
- Photo image galleries.
- On-demand video streaming.
- User profiles and preferences.
- Peer-to-peer content sharing.
- User-submitted content/social media.
- Editorial content syndications such as RSS feeds.
- Message posting and blogging.
- Ringtones, wallpapers and games.
Cielo’s downloadable handset applets allow companies to establish direct and ongoing dialogues with consumers. Consumers can be queried for information over time (for example, product preferences or general interests and hobbies). Cielo captures this information and makes it available to clients along with consumer tracking behavior within the application. This information is used for segmentation and targeting.
These cell-phone-resident applications utilize Cielo’s patented relational interface, which not only improves the user experience. It has also been designed to dramatically accelerate low-cost porting of applications to multiple handsets for broad reach.
Downloadable mobile applications can be discovered in ways similar to how Cielo’s WAP sites are found – from mobile banner ads to short codes and keywords in traditional media or on product packaging. In addition, Cielo’s WAP sites themselves may contain menu items enabling a consumer to discover and access a downloadable application.
